The following students are participating in the Cross-Cultural Rhetoric Project in Winter 2008.

Frida Buhre

Hello,
Frida BuhreMy name is Frida Buhre and I come from a small community close to Stockholm. I study Rhetoric B in Uppsala and rhetoric will probably be my major, with literature and gender studies as second and third subject. I’m very interested in literature, both in my spare time and in the university. I’m very much involved in the student organization at the Institution of Literature at Uppsala University. Communication over national borders is one of the most interesting things I know of and therefore I find this project very giving. I’ve traveled a lot around the world, and even though Americans, to my experience, are not the ones were there is too much cultural differences I think that this project may help me understand more about cross cultural rhetoric and rhetorical studies, because we examine it more closely. I look forward to the next workshop!

Anton Svensson

Anton SvenssonMy name is Anton Svensson, and I’m 21 years old. I grew up in a small town in the south-west of Sweden called Falköping. I’m currently attending my first year at the university, and I’ve chosen rhetorical studies because I find it very interesting considering how important rhetorical knowledge is, and sometimes pretty challenging. Before I decided to study in Uppsala I worked two years as a ski instructor in Sweden. I guess you could say that skiing and outdoor activities are my two greatest interests besides music and literature. Music is my passion.

That’s all, folks!

Take care,
Anton

Hannes Lind-Skogsberg

My first name is Hannes and my family name is Lind-Skogsberg. I am born and raised in the city of Uppsala just north of Stockholm, which is also my current city of residence and where I study. I now do my second year of full time studies at Uppsala University. To define me as a person and a student I choose three words: music and late nights. This is how my life is: I almost never fall asleep before 3 AM and I almost always listen to music. In reflection to cross cultural rhetoric I think music is the language of the world, it would be nice to hear other opinions on this.

Daniel Söderberg
Daniel SoderbergHello, my name is Daniel Söderberg, I am 21 years old and I am from Uppsala, Sweden. I was born in Uppsala, and I have lived here all my life outside of one year which I spent in North Carolina going to Highschool.

Currently I am studying the rhetoric B course at Uppsala University, which means that I am basically an undergrad.

My major interests include football(yes, your football, not soccer) which I have been playing for 6 years this spring as a left tackle. I am also very in to music(particularly hiphop and post hardcore), and movies. Outside of football, my other passion is working at night clubs, and I currently hold the position of “nightclubmanager” at one of the universities “Nations,” which are basically on campus student organisations where we go to party and socialise. Because of my year in the states, and my passion for football I have a glowing interest in the “rhetorics of the coach” which I think is one of the typically american rhetorical styles.

Andy Woube (Teaching Assistant)

This is a picture of me and three Buddhis monks inside Wat Ouanalom, the headquarters of the Cambodian Buddhist patriarchate, located in the heart of the capital Phnom Penh.

Andy Woube is originally from Ethiopia but was raised in Uppsala, Sweden. He is currently writing a paper about the African American ethos as it pertains to the campaign of Senator and Presidential hopeful, Barack Obama. Andy's research interest on the subject of rhetoric is mainly within the field of intercultural communication. His previous papers, about Emperor Haile Selassie I's address to The League of Nations in 1936, have had to do with this topic.

This project interests Andy for many reasons; the main motive being rhetoric in combination with cross cultural communication. Moreover he identifies himself as a genuine world citizen, having lived in three continents (Europe, Africa and America), in addition to his extensive travel to many other parts of the world.

In his spare time, Andy enjoys listing to music, reading nonfiction literature on the subject of economics, history, and politics - most often containing a reference to Africa and The US. But most importantly, he loves film as well as being an extremely passionate soccer player.
